About Thane Academy of Pediatrics

Thane Academy of Pediatrics (TAP); a vibrant and enthusiastic body of practising pediatricians on a academic as well as cultural and social front. This year in 2020, despite the Covid pandemic it's spirit has been kept alive. TAP came together to beat the COVID blues and put together a sublime portrayal of TAP initiative; activities and dedication towards children's wellbeing and team spirit through all its activities.

About Thane Academy of Pediatrics

The Golden Era of TAP started in 2003 when all of us unanimously decided to host the 14th Mahapedicon for the first time in Thane. Dr.Yogesh Acharya as organizing chairperson & Dr. Shyam Jagger as organizing president with Dr. Sandeep Kadam as organising Secretary took charge and whole group of thane academy of paediatrics consisting of meagre 80 odd members worked day in and day out and conjured a grand show of academics and fun which was rated as “second-to-none event” in those days. During same year Thane Academy of Pediatrics also got the best branch award under flagship of Dr.Shyam Jagger and Dr.Sandeep Kelkar. Later Multi speciality hospitals like Kaushalya Medical Foundation Trust Hospital, Lok (Bethany), Jupiter & Currae hospital sprouted in the vicinity and we started meeting in their premises. While Kaushalya hospital in Pachpakhadi was the host to many a meeting initially, we soon shifted to Jupiter hospital & have been meeting there now for the last over 5 years or so.
Then came the “Whatsapp” era. Friend’s common man waste their precious time on social media, but we at TAP used it to fullest. Under the august leadership of Dr. Ramesh Iyer in 2014 our various Whatsapp groups were formed for purely clinical discussions, named TAP CLINICS, so it becomes easy to discuss short cases, put up pictures of spot diagnosis, share particular trend or odd presentations of common diseases especially during monsoons and also it is a medium to send SOS to all the fraternity if & when an untoward incident occurs in a colleagues’ clinic/hospital. On the fun and frolic group aptly named TAP MASTI we celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, share personal and families’ achievements etc. In short the Whatsapp era has helped us bond better and increased the comrade among TAPians. In year 2015, during tenure of Dr.Suresh Wankhede with great efforts of Dr.Sandeep Kadam, TAP acquired its own office premise at High street mall, Thane.
We now have more than 175 paediatricians and paediatric surgeons, along with super specialists in all branches like cardiology, neurology, nephrology, rheumatology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, orthopaedic, endocrinology, haematology and we regularly meet on 2nd Wednesday of every month for clinical meet as well as for CMEs with excellent presentations & discussions. Looking at the quality of the meets, & thanks to our very own Dr. Santosh Kadam we get MMC accreditation too!

History

The 25 year old history of TAP is like a “movie script”.

It is richly woven in adventure, plot, characters, twists, mystery, love, music and message.

THE TAP Production house presents the "TAP SCRIPT" –

Producers: Circa 1988 BT (before TAP):

The movie was about to be panned in the can forever.

The Studio of Senior paediatricians Dr. B.L. Varudkar, Dr. J.K. Karve, Dr. Ravindra Tamhane, Dr.  Yatish Verma, Dr. Prakash Patankar, Dr. Ashok Agarwal, Dr. Pradeep Hajirnis, Dr.  Shyam Jagger, Dr. Avinash Wagle and few others practiced their art of healing with no infrastructure. Yet the dream remained.

Directors: Circa 1988 AT (after TAP):

The script is discovered and believed by a production house of 80 paediatricians who practiced that time in Thane region.

Starring Dr Sudhir Sane, Dr. Suhas Kulkarni, Dr. Ashok Vij, Dr. Pushpa Mahadik, Dr. Ratnadeep Ayachit, Dr. Shantilal Thakker, Dr. Sandeep Kadam & Dr. Manoj Sangoi and some more, they all felt the need to meet and discuss difficult & interesting cases for better practice.

The Casting credits:

The story is born. The shooting starts.

They decided to meet every 2nd Wednesday of every month for clinical meeting as TAP – Thane Academy of Paediatrics - a tradition which has continued till today.

The locations:

The script covered many locales – studio sets to outdoor.

Those were the days with no costume designers…

Initially, about 6 – 10 started meeting at Casting Director Dr. Suhas Kulkarni Chiranjeevi hospital in Panchpakhadi and later at Ahura polyclinic, where Dr. Sudhir Sane used to consult. Those were the days with no costume designers (no AV aids), yet there were good animated academic discussions.

The entry of Production designers –

Soon, by 2000, Dr. Vandana Kumavat, HOD of Pediatrics at the new CSM Kalwa Hospital invited the group to meet there. Meetings flourished with Production designers - the AV aids of those days – with OHPs and slides on carrousels. The enthusiasm to draw the painstaking diagrams & colourful handwritten write-ups on the transparencies is now nostalgia!

The film turns cinemascope –

Later by 2003, the "at-gratis" AC hall in Kaushalya Medical Foundation Trust Hospital increased the attendance and from 2010, the shooting of the monthly meetings are done at Jupiter hospital.

The Rajnikant Moment:

It brought the whistles and the drama. The script suddenly catapulted to a top gripping level.

The "Biggest B moment" happened with grand and thunderous entry of MAHAPEDICON 2003 – the 14th MahaPedicon that was hosted by TAP for the first time in Thane!

The story turned into edge-of-the-seat adventure with strong dialogues (academics), melodious songs (fellowship banquets), never before seen fun moments (Mahapedicon Carnival), powerful acting by lead roles (Dr. Yogesh Acharya as Org. Chairman, Dr. Shyam Jagger as Org. President and Dr. Sandeep Kadam as Org. Secretary) and empowering side roles by others (80 odd members). The show was house full with 800+ audiences over 3 days!

TAP was the first branch to cross the 100 cr mark –

It got the coveted Oscar – the "Best Branch award"!

The awesome song:

One song carries the script forwards.

It was AWESOME 2006 at Tip Top plaza that brought the melody of academics and the music of skit by Dr Suhas Kulkarni and other members. The lyricist Dr. Prakash Vaidya as president and Editor Dr Bhavesh Mithiya worded it in an awesome way!

The pre-interval suspense screen play:

The abrupt deepening of the suspense brings grip to the script.

Many dialogues boosted the script story. Be it the Dr. Athavle Research Foundation CME “Reflections” in 2009 reflected by President Dr. Sandeep Kadam and themed by Dr Lucky Kasat; the IAP modules of GEM; PALS provider course; Pediatric infectious diseases; Rational antibiotic policy; first of its kind “Neuro-Awesome” and part in PROTOCON brought the chutzpah.

The guest appearance by Dr. Jane Burns and her researchers to TAP in 2006 also had its impact for the worldwide Kawasaki disease study program.

The post interval dramatic turn:

The sudden twist in the tale deepened the mystery. It jolted all!

The first annual TAP conference – TAPICON - in 2009 with Dr. Sandeep Kadam as Org. Chairman, Dr. Sudhir Sane & Dr. Sandeep Kelkar as Org. Secretaries brought deep interest in the mystery. 6 editions have been shot to-date.

The "Bahubali moments":

The first was the first ever for any IAP branch in India – the "Catamaran sojourn" in 2006 saw the typical search  during the item number by Dr. Suhas Kulkarni to arrest of Dr. Prakash Vaidya by Presidential medal on the  catamaran amidst 110 pediatricians and the generator music of the catamaran! The opulent set in the high seas of Arabian was set by Dr. Lucky Kasat.

The post-interval moment that one always waits for was the “Destination TAPICON” at 5 star beach resort at Goa in 2014!

The VFX was created by Dr Lucky Kasat, penned by Dr. Ramesh Iyer as president and edited by Dr. Ramgopal Chejara. This first ever destination TAPICON outside Thane brought the crowd (160+) for "the academic trance and fellowship dance"!

The “Bahubali brand” was thus created.

The 4 other "Zingat (Sairat)" interwoven stories:

As in most movies, those numbers are so important that they bring the "zing and zingat"!

The TAP script has 4 such numbers!

The 1st Sairat Story - the first of its kind as Thane districts 1st and Indias 10th TAP “Human Milk bank” at Kalwa hospital in 2012 (inked by Dr. Laxmikant Kasat with Dr. Vandana Kumavat) was the climax of the 2nd story of “Breast Milk Awareness seminars penned by Dr. Sandeep Kadam since more than 14 years every August in World Breast feeding awareness month (with BPNI and Rotary) for lactating mothers, nurses, aayabais and lady citizens.

The 3rd story of "Project Aastha" (Rational Scientific Management for the poor) with multiple ORS camps for the poor was styled by Dr. Parul Shukla and Dr. Mahendra Kelkar with 20 more doctors. The 4th story is something that you shall love to hear – it’s second of its kind “Universal Newborn Hearing Screening” program at no profit no loss base by Dr. Sudhir Sane that is still running house full!

The playback singers:

They infuse life in the soul of the script and bind the script stories together.

The brand ORTAP (Orchestra by Thane Academy of Pediatrics) strummed by Dr. Mahendra Kelkar and hummed with 15 odd TAP members in the song situations of DIWALI PAHAT and Banquet nites always took the script forwards!

The lighter moments:

In any script, this tickling moment is very essential – it breathes freshness into the next scene.

For TAP, its "Sports Day" and "box cricket team" provide just that! Captained by Dr. Namish Sawaria, VC Dr Abhay Marathe & other teammates, it bonded all very well.

The background score:

As required, it changed as per the script and won the "critic award" as one of the best!

The two “Whatsapp” groups – Masti and Clinics formed since 2014 by Dr. Ramesh Iyer brought melodious score.

The new TAP logo crafted by Dr Lucky Kasat during tenure of Dr. Suresh Wankhade in 2015 gave the bass.

MMC accreditation for 5 years was drummed by Dr. Santosh Kadam.

First ever roster of TAP by Dr. Lucky Kasat in Dr. Suhas Kulkarni presidential tenure and also the first ever TAP bulletin by Dr. Lucky were trumpeted in between.

The final climax:

This scene was shot in one take!

The last mystery was solved at an unexpected locale on High street mall, Thane where the story culminates with TAP buying its own premises! Directed by Dr. Sandeep Kadam under producer President Dr Wankhade umbrella. For a script, it is a high!

The Executive producer:

He is the one who brings it to all - the production design, the marketing – without which no story can be told loudly.

TAP enters the era of "mobile app" and its own dynamic website in 2017 due to current Executive Producer Dr Bhavesh Mithiya and Secretary Dr Prashant Darandale ably supported by Assistant Directors Dr Sachin Birader, Vivek Bhortakke, Dr Manish Doshi and Production desiner Dr Lucky Kasat.

Man with a mission, current Executive Producer Dr Bhavesh brought the necessary "bhaav" (emotion) in the script so that the audience leave the hall with a satisfying TAP movie experience!
